NOTE: The characater's gender is unknown. Please take what Mike Salcedo says as truth and don't put up your speculation.

V is a character who appears in Alphabet Lore and Number Lore.

Appearance

V is a navy blue Letter V. Their eyes are located near the bottom of the only stalks and their mouth is lower in the middle. Like B, they also have the ability to fly by flapping their sides like wings.

Biography

V wasn't shown much as a child other than getting angry at f over the frick incident.

Alphabet Lore

V has a very small role in their titular episode, V. In the episode, they say their name but then is scared by the bite mark on P's face and after she gets shot, they get even more scared, revealing them being afraid of everything. V helps A, N, and the other Letters to become “VAN” and get to F's cave quicker. When they finally get there, V runs away frightened.

Number Lore

V debuts in 3, where A clings onto them to go to F's cave and request N's help to transform into the VAN. N eventually does so, and they encounter the Calculator Ship when it crashes into the ground. While V didn't attempt to attack Three, they didn't get hurt either. They witnessed L throw the ship at F, but appeared to show little concern.

Additional information

Trivia

  • From what little we see of them, V appears to be frightened easily, as when they saw the deformed P, they vibrated in fear, and once they and A, G, N, U, and M arrived at F's cave, they immediately ran away from the cave in fear.
    • Ironically, they were still angry at F for being forced to spell "frick".
  • When they are scared, they vibrate, due to the word starting with their letter and that the sound of v is actually vibrating.
  • V is one of few characters who were never injured throughout the series, alongside Q and Z.
    • This doesn't include 1,000,000 as it is non-canon.
  • V's smile is shaped like their design.
  • V and U were seen the least as lowercase Letters, having only ever been angry.
  • As revealed in 3, V is also capable of the ability to fly as shown by A.
  • V is the only letter to not be silent in any word, other than names of places (e.g. Milngavie).
  • Though they are obviously presented as male, their actual gender is unknown.[1]
  • The Phoenician letter waw derived the Greek letter u.
    • The u letter was used in both Western Greek (which became Modern Greek) and Euboean (which became Etruscan, when Latin and finally modern day English), in which it became the letter V, which is what they resemble.
    • Later in Greek, the letter's name became upsilon, which originated as Koine Greek: u psilon means "plain u", in order to distinguish it from the Greek digraph omicron-iota.
    • The letter V used to make both /u/ and /v/ sounds until the letter U was eventually resembled by a modified V, and that U gained the /u/ sound, and the letter V rarely makes the /u/ sound anymore. This was probably to prevent the confusion.
