4 is the fourth episode of the first season of Number Lore, and the thirty-first episode overall. It has 4 parts.
Plot[]
Act 1[]
After the calculator ship collides with F's cave, N reforms the VAN and drives to the cave to check on his close friend. L, who heckles at the collision, turns his attention to J, E, R, and K, calling him out for his unruly actions by spelling "JERK", revealing his true nature. So L decides to follow the VAN to F's cave. N, seen in an emotional crisis, frantically powers up the VAN to super form and drives even faster. Later, One (still entrapped with his clone, 2, and 3) uses a blowtorch on O's colon gem to free him and his allies.
Act 2[]
Meanwhile back with VAN, N rushes into the cave to save F, running through and avoiding all the rubbish. As it turns out, the question mark gem had protected F from the attack. L then arrives, unwillingly looking for F. F hides from him and jumps out to surprise him by pushing him into one of the calculator ship's bubbles, encasing him, who inadvertently uses his period gem on himself when attempting to attack F. The question mark gem then makes sudden melts into the cracks in the next bubble to the right. N catches up to F, but still upset from N leaving earlier, F enters that bubble himself. Back with the Numbers, One successfully burns the colon gem off and frees himself and the Numbers, preparing on them.
Act 3[]
One is on top of 2's head, with 3 and One's clone and the equation machine. One mounts his device on top of his head to evoke the appearance of a cowboy hat. The Numbers then use the equation machine as a train and run over the Letters. Now free from his bubble, X tries to take down the Numbers by re-cloning himself. This time, however, it backfires, as he still doesn't have his asterisk gem, and he gets run over by the equation machine, injuring him in the progress. In the progress, G sadly looks at a picture of his family, fearing his son is lost. After getting run over by the Numbers, G notices his son on top of the equation machine, so he calls P (still encased in a bubble) in Morse code, and they set off to rescue their son, though they struggle to get closer to the machine, causing them to go in the wrong direction.
Meanwhile, back in F's cave, F follows the question mark gem into the bubble and enters the calculator ship. The question mark gem then fixes the ship and repowers it on its own. Frightened by this, N decides to use his semicolon gem to attempt to restrain the ship. The launch button ripples when the ship's destination is sent to mysterious Planet. F is thinking about pressing the launch button to go there.
Act 4[]
Back outside, U is still struggling to catch up with the rest of the Letters, but the Numbers run through him, making U go after them instead. N links his gem to F's question mark gem, momentarily forming the ampersand gem again, resulting in a tassel between the two Letters: N tries to restrain the ship, while F attempts to pull towards the launch button, now fully influenced by the question mark gem as L helplessly watches them.
Meanwhile, B, I, K, and E chase after the Numbers, who notice the Letters on their trail. They attempt to form a new ally, 4, but this backfires when g tampers with the device, rolling the equation wheel to the minus gem and forming Subtraction Created 2. However, g loses his footing and flies onto the BIKE, opening the Numbers to form 4, a serpentine number with elastic and chlorokinetic abilities. Upon being formed, 4 burrows into the ground and lifts 2 and the equation machine, taking the wheel and providing a faster escape while stretching her spiky body, providing an obstacle for the Letters in the chase, resulting in the BIKE's front tire popping. However, O comes to the Letters' rescue last minute, acting as a spare tire for the BIKE and greatly increasing its speed and capabilities.
By this time, F has won the tassel between him and N, initiating the calculator ship's takeoff. N fails to restrain the ship, and the ampersand gem is again broken. However, O uses his gem to repair the link between the gems, giving an open door for the Numbers to catch up. 4 uses her second ability, her plantlike physiology, by burrowing and rooting into the ground and using her body to lift the Numbers up to the ship. 4 attempts to restrain the ship, marking the first time the Letters and the Numbers work together, albeit indirectly. But disaster strikes again when O's gem's powers fade out, thus causing the calculator ship to fly to Planet 0, holding F, alongside g and a still-encased L in it. F is now in possession of N's semicolon gem. N and O gaze upon the ship, sad about their best friends. F momentarily feels grief for his actions but quickly brushes them aside and looks ahead, resulting in the Calculator Ship being now all his.

Trivia[]
- This is the first episode:
- To be released in 2024.
- Where Mike Salcedo doesn't work alone but with indie animation studio Jellybox and Clone crew like Geoff Ganelda, Chris Salcedo, and Connor Murphy.
- In which a gem in the equation machine Clone than the + gem was used, albeit inadvertently.
- In which the Letters and Numbers work together.
- To feature a character whose eyes are red.
- To be split into parts. It was initially split into parts because the release period between 2 and 3 spanned six months.
- With a thumbnail change.
- To have more parts than one.
- This is the first time a superhero word appears, being VAN. This is also V and A's first time being in the LMNOP (hero) squad, even though it's in a word.
- 4.1 was released on the fourth day of the fourth month and the fourth day of the week in the UK.
- This is J's first word, spelling "JERK," even though it's more of a stealth word.
- 4 makes her debut 5 minutes into the episode.
- When fans are subscribed and payed to Mike Salcedo's Patreon, a sneak peek on Patreon is shown where F is on a bridge. However, this sneak peek isn't featured in the episode.
- This is the only episode where its 3 first parts aren't on Newgrounds.
- F finally gets payback at L for ruining his and N's childhood.
- C, D, H, M, Q, S, and Y are absent in this episode.
- N and O finally put their childhood differences aside and work together to restrain the calculator ship from taking off.
- 4 has the smallest eyes than any Clone letter or number.
- 4 is the third character overall in the series to not have black pupils, following H and W, who have white and red pupils, respectively, and the third, whose scleras are not white.
- 4 is the second character:
- In this episode, 0 is revealed to be a planet, just like Z.
- The episodes used to say "# (PART #)", but as of May 10th 2024, the parts have been renamed to "#.#", instead.
- The thumbnail of 4.3 used to be F still mad at N, but on May 14th was changed to F looking at the button.
- A, B, I, J, K, R, T, V and W appear in all parts but do not speak.
- When X gets run over by the Numbers, the pose of X is quite similar to the "DragonBall Z: Kakarot" episode, which has Yamcha's death pose.
- This is the second time the stealth word "no" appears in the series, symbolizing the Letters' failed attempt to restrain the calculator ship from taking off. The first time this instance occurred was in episode nZ…, where O assaulted N during their childhood.
- The full episode was released on the premiere of Despicable Me's 4th movie, the release date of the video game Zenless Zone Zero, and on Independence Day in the USA.
- When the BIKE jumps with O as a wheel, it passes by Z's moon, a reference to the movie E.T. (No, not the Katy Perry song, the movie).
- The bike chase scene between the Letters and Numbers yields some references to the game Snake, the animal species that 4 is based on.
- The heartbeat sound effect was used the second time. The first was V (Episode).
- This is the third time a character silhouette has been revealed. The first time was in the Number Lore trailer. The second being 3 (Episode). The next time will be in 5, 6, 7, and 8's episodes.
